How much fragrance per pound of wax for candle making? ›

A: The industry standard is considered 0.5 ounce of fragrance per pound of wax. For double-scenting, you would use 1 ounce of fragrance per pound of wax. For triple-scenting your candles you can use 1.5 ounces of fragrance per pound of wax. Make sure to confirm the wax you are using will hold that much fragrance.

To find how much wax you will need, multiply the number of candles you are making by the amount of wax it will hold, and then divide that by 20. For example, if you want to make 30 - 8 ounce candles the math would be as follows: 30 (containers) x 8 (oz per container) = 240 total ounces / 20 = 12 lbs wax needed.

The recommended fragrance load for a soy wax candle is generally between 5% to 10% of the weight of the wax used in the candle. However, some blended waxes like coconut soy wax can usually take up to 12% (which will usually give a very strong scent throw). Step 1 - Figure out your candle vessel capacity.

One pound of wax should make you two 14 oz candles with some wax left over. So 10 lbs should be more than enough.

It's a good rule of thumb to start around 6%, or 1 oz. of fragrance per 16 oz./1 lb. of wax. Most wax manufacturers have a recommended fragrance load of 6-8% with a max of 10-12%.

Most waxes will hold no more than 12% of fragrance oil however to assure the candle stability is not compromised we advise using 10% fragrance oil for optimal scent throw. This means if your candle is 100g in total- 90g should be wax and 10g would be your fragrance oil.

Add your fragrance at the right temp: Adding your fragrance oil when your wax is at the proper temperature will help it bind to the wax, which will help give you a stronger scent throw. It is usually recommended to add your fragrance to the wax at 180-185F for soy and paraffin wax 200-205ºF for palm wax.

Soy wax candles burn for a long time. Soy wax candles offer a high-quality fragrance throw. Soy offers a clean and residue-free burn.

If you decide that you want a clean-burning candle that will give you the strongest scent throw you can get, you might choose paraffin. If you want a wax that is clean-burning, comes from a renewable source, has a great scent throw, and burns longer, soy might be the way to go.

How do you make strong-scented candles? Generally speaking, the more fragrance oil you add to your melted wax, the more aromatic the candle will be. And as mentioned above, the type of wax you choose has an effect too. The basic ratio is one ounce of oil per pound of wax.

What is the fragrance load for make market soy wax? ›

Rule of Thumb: As a rule of thumb, you need 1 oz fragrance oil in 1 pound of soy wax. Technically, it is 6.25% of the fragrance load. We have calculated it by dividing 1 oz of scented oil with 16 oz (1 pound of soy wax).

The 'fragrance load' or fragrance % is the manufacturers recommended maximum amount of fragrance that a particular wax can retain. For example, if you are making a 16 oz. candle with a wax that has a maximum 10% fragrance load, you could add up to 1.6 oz.

How much Fragrance Oil for 8 Oz Candles. Now that we understand the importance of fragrance load, let's get into the specifics. For an 8 oz candle, the recommended fragrance load typically falls between 5% to 10% of the weight of the wax used in the candle.

The general guideline for adding essential oils to candle wax is a 1% to 3% fragrance load. This means adding about 5 to 15 ml of essential oil per pound (approximately 450 grams) of wax.

The maximum amount of fragrance oil recommended is listed in the Properties section of each type of wax. For example, Golden Brands 464 Soy Wax has a maximum fragrance load of 10% or 1.6 ounces per pound of wax.

Now that your wax has reached 200°F you are ready to add the fragrance oil. It is most common to add 1 to 1.5 ounces of fragrance per pound of wax (For a stronger scent throw, we recommend 1.5 ounces of fragrance per pound of wax). Stir and mix all of the ingredients thoroughly at 200°F.
